Vergano Americano
Vergano “Americano” Vermouth Rosso is a small-batch bitter aperitivo crafted by Mauro and Tommaso Vergano in Asti, Piedmont, made from Grignolino base wine macerated with absinthe, gentian, quinine, orange peel, savory, and other aromatic herbs before light fortification (~16% ABV). This “Americano” style—distinct from its cocktail namesake—leans deeper into bitter than sweet vermouth, offering a vivid balance of cherries and quinine, bright citrus zest, fine herbs, and gentle savory complexity.
On the nose and palate, expect shiny ruby-red fruit (raspberry, cherry), orange peel, earthy botanicals, and a mild quinine bitterness, beautifully balanced and textural. The finish is smooth yet intriguing, with lingering bittersweet spice—ideal neat over ice with soda and orange or as a nuanced alternative in cocktails that usually call for sweet vermouth.
