Margherita Otto Vino Chinato NV
Margherita Otto is the boutique Barolo project of American-born Alan Manley, blending traditional long-maceration Barolo with herbal fortification in the time-honored Chinato style—infused with cinchona, rhubarb, gentian, and spices before aging for about a year—crafted as a small-lot complement to his luxe estate wines. Made entirely from Nebbiolo Barolo DOCG base wine (17% ABV), this Chinato is darker and more red-fruited than many counterparts, earned acclaim as sweet yet bittersweet and “warm, round” in style.
On the nose, it reveals a perfume of cherries, raspberries, and cigar box, layered with cinnamon, licorice, nutmeg, and subtle oak tones. The palate is lush and velvety, balanced between jammy dark fruit and gentle bitter herbs, finishing long, warming, and elegantly bittersweet—best enjoyed post-dinner with dark chocolate or simply by the fireside
