Monkey Shoulder Blended Whisky
First released in 2003 by William Grant & Sons, Monkey Shoulder was originally a blend from Glenfiddich, Balvenie, and Kininvie distilleries, created both as a tribute to traditional blend casks and to support mixology, with its name nodding to the repetitive strain endured by maltmen in Speyside. It is a triple-malt Speyside blend bottled at 40% ABV, designed to bridge the gap between single malts and grain blends while delivering consistency from small-batch 27-cask marriage techniques.
Aromatically it offers a rich bouquet of marmalade, crème Catalana, cocoa, vanilla, and winter spices, evolving into honeyed malt, baked apple, nutmeg, cloves, strawberry, barley, and a hint of aniseed. On the palate, it shows juicy toasted barley, butterscotch, dried apricot, dark chocolate, and a subtle maltiness, finishing medium-long with spicy oak and a cool peppermint flick.
