Mezcal Mal Bien
Mal Bien is a collaborative mezcal project launched to spotlight traditional palenqueros across Oaxaca’s villages, including maestros like Félix Ramírez and Lucio Morales, using organically grown Espadín and single-pass distillation around 45–47% ABV. It’s distilled in copper stills in small-batch fashion, fermented with open-air yeasts, often making this mezcal a sweetly smoky and balanced expression for both sipping and cocktails.
On the nose expect roasted agave, cinnamon, cedar, and bright citrus zest; the palate follows with gentle smoke, leather, caramelized banana, and barley, finishing with light peppery warmth and a faint mineral dry‑down. While approachable and versatile, some note its shorter finish makes it a solid mixer, yet devotees appreciate its value and authenticity (“gateway mezcal”)
