Contraluz Mezcal Cristalino
Contraluz, crafted by mezcalero Don Carlos León Monterrubio in Oaxaca, debuted in 2016 as the world’s first cristalino mezcal—aged 6–12 months in charred American oak before activated charcoal filtration to achieve a clear, ultra‑smooth spirit bottled at ~40 % ABV.
The nose is luminous with fresh green agave, citrus zest (lemon, orange), gentle floral blossom, a whisper of light smoke, and nuanced hints of vanilla, cedar, honey, and dried fruit. On the palate it’s soft yet layered—cooked agave sweetness framed by clove, cacao, vanilla, and cedar with lingering dried-fruit warmth and subtle smoke. The finish is long, balanced, and clean
