Cocchi Barolo Chinato
Cocchi Barolo Chinato is a fortified aromatized wine crafted since 1891 by Giulio Cocchi in Asti, Piedmont, steeped in the region’s luxurious Barolo DOCG and infused with cinchona bark, rhubarb, gentian, cardamom, ginger, cocoa, and a host of aromatic botanicals. The company, founded by a Florentine pastry chef, has upheld its founder’s original recipes into the modern era under the Bava family, reviving Barolo Chinato alongside classic vermouth styles.
On the nose it bursts with stewed raisins, dark spiced fruitcake, fig, cherry, orange rind, rhubarb, almond, menthol, and ground spice, offering a rich, wine-forward aromatic intensity. The palate delivers a velvety, bittersweet harmony of dried dark fruit, tart berry, cocoa, herbal bitterness, and tannic grip—finishing long and decadent.
