ARPEPE Valtellina Superiore Riserva Sassella 'Rocce Rosse' 1996
This mature bottling from AR.PE.PE hails from the steep, terraced Sassella cru in Lombardy’s Valtellina region, where 100 % Chiavennasca (local Nebbiolo) vines climb at 400–500 m elevation above Lake Como. The 1996 vintage underwent extended maceration (reported ~69 days) and long aging in large wooden casks before release.
On the nose expect dried red‑cherry, wild rose petal, under‑brush, leather and forest‑floor; the palate features elegant, still lively acidity, fine tannins, iron‑rust minerality and a long finish that hints at truffle and dried herb.
