Amaro dell'Etna
Amaro dell’Etna is a volcanic‑rooted herbal liqueur crafted since 1901 at the foot of Mount Etna in Sicily, originally developed by Giuseppe Calì Tabuso using native Sicilian herbs, citrus peels, rhubarb, licorice, and botanicals sourced from the fertile volcanic soil. The recipe, handed down through generations and now produced by Agrosan Sicilia, draws on a blend of over 26 wild herbs, a pomace‑based spirit, and artisanal cold maceration before ageing, yielding a natural 29 % ABV liqueur.
On the nose it's bold and bittersweet, with bright bitter‑orange peel, tangy rhubarb, sarsaparilla, vanilla, and a smoky‑minerality reminiscent of ash and licorice. The palate balances crisp citrus and slightly sweet rhubarb with warming cinnamon, licorice, and faint smoke, finishing slightly bitter and herbaceous.
