CASTELLO DI AMA
GAIOLE, TUSCANY, IT
The label is iconic, graced by a medieval Sienese knight.
Founded in 1976, when four families from Rome bought a 12th century estate in Chianti, Castello di Ama has become one of the region’s benchmark producers. The estate covers 75 hectares of vineyards, all in close proximity to the winery, along with 40 hectares of olive trees.
Celebrated for its refined expressions of Sangiovese-dominant reds, Castello di Ama’s 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva captures the excellence of the area’s most formidable wines: elegant, savory, and built to age beautifully.
We suggest enjoying this bottle over an evening. The first glass is bright, with healthy verve, energetic tannic structure, and crisp, herbal flavors. With air, it gains richness and depth, with plummier, brooding fruit.
A wine to share now - though it will surely continue to develop graciously if cellared for 5-7 more years.
Castello Di Ama Chianti Classico Riserva 2006
Established in 1976 near Gaiole, Castello di Ama is globally renowned for elevating Chianti Classico to new heights. Helmed by managing director Lorenza Sebasti and legendary winemaker Marco Pallanti, the estate is famous for its high-altitude vineyards situated up to 1,740 feet above sea level on rocky, calcareous clay soils.
The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva is an excellent expression of Sangiovese-dominant Tuscan red. With a concentrated garnet color, the nose is full of cigar smoke, violets, forest floor and a medly of dried raspberry and cherry. The palate is plump, with red cherry, healthy earth, light anise and leather. The wine develops incredibly well over an evening.
